By Faith and the Spirit

Paul had just returned from his first mission trip. It had been successful, new churches were planted everywhere he went. But it had come with a price, in almost every town he had been opposed and left because angry mobs were after him. Then he gets a letter from the churches in Galatian. Fanatical Jews had come and preached against Paul and his message. There was division and chaos as a result. What should they do? Paul immediately writes a letter to these churches to encourage them to live by faith and the spirit, not by the law. This letter becomes the book of Galatians in the New Testament.

Faith Changes Me from the Inside.

Paul and Barnabas have just returned from their first mission trip. Peter pays a visit to their home church. At first Peter fellowships with both the Jewish and Gentile believers. But when some important people visit from Jerusalem, Peter is afraid what they will think. Peter distances himself from the Gentile believer and many others, including Barnabas follow his example. Paul is forced to call them out and discusses what the work of Jesus on the cross really means. Gal. 2:11-21

Fruit of Perservance

It took perseverance for Paul to complete his first missionary journey. Almost every place they preached threw him and Barnabas out of town. But despite opposition, Paul had made disciples everywhere he went. He and the believers had endured hardships to enter the Kingdom of God. Prayer and fasting had helped discern what good actions Paul and the new believers were to do in the Kingdom. Acts 14: 21-28.

Iconium

Paul and Barnabas travel onto Iconium after getting kicked out of Pisidian Antioch. They are persistent in preaching the Good News about Jesus. In Iconium, the Jews are divided. (Acts 14:1-7) Some believe, others don’t. Paul and Barnabas take their message to the Gentiles. God gives them signs and wonders to prove the truth of their message. Even with all this, the apostles get chased out of town. How persistent are we at sharing the Good News of Jesus? How watchful are we for how God works in miraculous signs in our lives?

The Salvation of Others is Worth the Hardship

John Mark deserts Paul and Barnabas. They continue to preach about Jesus. At first the Jews in Pisidian Antioch receive the news about Jesus gladly. But when crowds come, they become jealous and eventually get Paul and Barnabas kicked out of not only the synagogue, but the town.
